Dear Mayor Mrakas,
I am writing to you to express my concerns that the Government of Ontario will apply the modified Stage 2 to York Region; and that yoga studios are classified as gyms.
I attend the Modo Yoga Aurora studio which is located in York Region and where there is a growing concern that the Public Health Measure currently in place, that has closed yoga studios in Toronto, Ottawa and Peel, will be applied across the board in York Region.
The yoga studio I attend is a small individually-owned yoga studio, not a "Big-Box" corporate gym. The owners have implemented many Public Heath measures and health and safety protocols in the studio in order to keep the members and communities safe, and the studio free from COVID-19.
They are operating at less than 50% of their capacity, masks are mandatory, temperature checks are taken, and Covid Screening questions are asked. Each class is a separate pod; with extensive cleaning and disinfecting protocols are applied before, during and after every class. A Fresh air exchanger (HRV) is used before, during and after classes; along with a Medical Grade H13 Jaspr HEPA Air Purifier.
I feel safe attending this studio because the owners are dedicated and committed to following all the necessary guidelines and protocols.
Yoga is a major part of my health and well being; as its supports my mental, physical and emotional health.
I ask that the government consider a targeted approach and not a cookie cutting approach to keeping businesses open.
Do not penalize or shut down businesses and/or municipalities with low or no outbreaks. And most importantly, please consider not classifying yoga studios as gyms.
The impact for small businesses to close for another 28 days will result in an economic downturn and additional permanent closures. In addition, it will affect the financial, mental and physical well-being of many citizens in the Province of Ontario.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, |
